The Results are In!

Respect for our users is one of Everlaw’s core values as an organization. As part of this, we use many different mechanisms to listen to our users, but one of our favorites is our annual user survey. The most recent was sent this past May. Hundreds of users completed the survey, making it one of the biggest sources of user feedback we receive throughout the year. We enjoy reading about how Everlaw is improving your ediscovery work—one user even said that the most difficult part of Everlaw was ever “having to work in other ediscovery platforms again.” While we’re grateful for the positive feedback, we’re just as excited by what we learn about how to continue to grow and improve.

In our most recent survey, we asked users to rate various features and provide specific feedback on what they would like to see change. This helps us prioritize what features to develop and what changes to implement.

So what did you tell us this year?

Since most of you spend a majority of your time in Everlaw using the review window to view documents, it’s no surprise that we got a lot of responses about it. In fact it was the second-most commonly mentioned feature, after search. These responses confirmed what we already knew: any improvement to review workflow efficiency is valuable. If a reviewer looks at 1,000 documents in a day, something that takes them ten extra seconds per document quickly adds up!

While it seems obvious that improving efficiency is valuable, it’s not obvious—without your feedback—which factors of the review window most impact efficiency, or what current features impede it. Your feedback over the past two annual user surveys has helped us identify these factors.

Because of the importance of having efficient review workflows, we are releasing a new full screen review window that will allow users to customize their workspace exactly as they prefer. For cases with a particularly complex coding sheet, you can now use more screen real estate to display your codes. Alternatively, if your case involves using ratings and binders to categorize documents, those can be displayed instead. You can even choose which metadata fields to display alongside documents (although the rest of the fields are of course still available with just one click). The possibilities go on, but we’ll leave it at this for now. And the best part? You will be able to see the coding sheet and apply codes without obscuring the document!

We actually began working on the revamped review window after last year’s user survey, but this most recent survey further emphasized to us how important this is to your workflow. Throughout the development process, user feedback has driven the adjustments and improvements to this feature. In the time between the annual surveys, we sought qualitative feedback about the review window. We conducted 18 live user sessions where lawyers, paralegals, and litigation support personnel gave us insight into their workflows. Some went hands-on with the beta version of the full screen review window to give their early impressions to our designers, developers, and user advocates. We used that research to further guide the development process. Soon, you’ll get to see it for yourself.

The addition of full screen mode is just one of many ways in which your direct feedback continues to influence and drive our product roadmap. We have many more big initiatives in the pipeline guided by the feedback and questions we get from you throughout the year.
