Our final release to close out 2015 is here! We’ve released new features intended to improve your workflow, and to increase transparency and control over the review process. We hope they make ediscovery even easier for you as you move into the new year.
New Assignment Automation
We’ve added a host of new functionality to our Assignments tool to help you move documents through your review workflow with as little intervention as possible.
First, we’ve added the ability to create assignment groups directly from the homepage. Previously, you could only create an assignment group from a search results table. Now, you can simply click the plus (+) button on the Assignments column, to begin creating an assignment group right away. That makes assignments faster and more intuitive!
We’ve also added the option to make assignment groups “dynamic.” Previously, assignment groups were all “static,” which meant that only the documents matching your search when you created the group would be added: any documents later added or rated to match the search parameters would have to be added to the group manually. With dynamic assignment groups, however, the search terms you define when you create an assignment group become “inclusion criteria.” This means that any new documents that match this criteria will be automatically and continually pulled into the assignment group. Inclusion criteria eliminate the need to re-run searches and manually add documents as they arrive, which makes review faster – and less likely to miss things.
Inclusion criteria can also reference other assignment groups, making it possible to link assignments together into complex automated workflows. This enables a variety of use cases:
- You can create a second-pass assignment group that automatically receives documents that are rated “hot” by reviewers in a first-pass assignment group.
- You can create an assignment group that collects all German documents identified during review, to assign to German-speaking reviewers.
- You can create an assignment group that collects documents whose predictive coding score conflicts with the actual coding, to help you identify potential mistakes.
What about all the static assignment groups you already have set up? Never fear: you can easily change them into dynamic ones by clicking “Inclusion Criteria” from the Assignments page and clicking “Enable.” From then on, any matching documents will be automatically added.
We’ve also made assignments easier to manage. Assignors now have the option of allowing reviewers to assign new documents to themselves in batches of a predetermined size. This allows reviewers to keep review progress moving, without being dependent on a single admin.

New Case Size Data
Have you ever wondered just how much data is in your case? Now you can find out by navigating to the “Case Size” section of “Case Analytics.” Here, you can see size information for current and previous cases. Note that case size data is only available for cases created on or after August 16, 2015.
New Organizations Classification
Under the “Users” tab in “Case Settings,” you can now see the organizations with which everyone in your case is associated. You can also configure permissions by organization, allowing you to control each organization’s access to case documents. Especially for large cases that involve multiple firms or entities collaborating, this simple but powerful classification makes it easier to work with both your colleagues and users from other organizations.
